Hi! I’m still working out the different parts of this new site, so please be patient with me as it comes together! I’m a writer and a baker, not a website developer, so while you wait, I thought I’d share a good book & snack pairing:
RISE OF THE VICIOUS PRINCESS is the first in a duology by the amazing CJ Redwine. In this smart, fast-paced, twisty young adult fantasy, we follow wickedly smart Princess Charis, a young woman who puts duty above self. From the back cover:
“…Her only goal is to hold her war-torn kingdom together long enough to find a path toward peace with their ancient foe, Montevallo, even if the cost is her own heart.”
Even from that one sentence, we know it’s going to be a great read with heart-breaking decisions, a boy she wants but can’t have (and he’s super swoony!), villainous story twists, and facing that her heart isn’t the only thing she has to lose.
One thing I loved about Charis is the depth of her character. She’s billed as “vicious,” and she certainly can be, but she loves deeply, cares for her people, and struggles to do what she knows must be done. But she’s not afraid to make the hard decisions and face the wrath of her advisors if it’s for the good of her kingdom.
Definitely check this one out!
The lemon bars were a recipe from another awesome authoress, Mary Weber. You can find the recipe reel on her Instagram @maryweberauthor. Since we are gluten free in our house, I made a simple switch of regular flour to one of my favorite GF blends (For this one I used Bob’s Red 1-to-1 gluten-free baking flour).
What kind of characters do you love?
